The Z21 WLANMAUS newGen is the successor to the hugely popular Z21 WLANMAUS, bringing a new colour display, redesigned menus, improved controls, rechargeable battery operation and USB-C charging to this well-established wireless handheld controller.

Designed for both newcomers and experienced digital model railway operators, the Z21 WLANMAUS newGen combines the familiar ergonomic WLANMAUS shape with a completely redesigned and more intuitive user interface.

Use it to drive locomotives, operate DCC functions, control points and signals, program decoders and much more – all from a comfortable wireless handheld controller.

And there is particularly good news for YaMoRC users: the new WLANMAUS has been tested by YaMoRC with the YD7010 Command Station, with locomotive control, functions, accessory operation and programming all successfully tested through the YD7010’s Z21 server.

This makes the WLANMAUS newGen an extremely interesting wireless handheld controller for both Z21 and YaMoRC YD7010 digital systems.

New 2″ Colour Display

The new generation WLANMAUS features a 2-inch colour display, providing a clear and easy-to-read interface for operating your railway.

All views can be individually adjusted between three different sizes, allowing the display to be configured to suit the operator.

Improved display navigation also makes it easier to move between locomotives, functions, accessories and system settings.

Locomotive Library with Product Images

Locomotive selection is now much more visual.

The WLANMAUS newGen features a locomotive library with product photographs available directly from the Z21 database.

Rather than relying purely on locomotive addresses and names, compatible locomotives can be displayed with an associated product image.

This can be particularly useful on layouts with large locomotive fleets or where several different operators use the same system.

Redesigned Menu System

Although the WLANMAUS newGen retains the familiar ergonomic shape of its predecessor, the menu structure has been completely redesigned.

The new interface has been developed to provide a more intuitive user experience and is particularly suited to one-handed operation.

Dedicated cursor keys, function buttons and mode controls provide quick access to frequently used features.

Drive Your Digital Locomotives

Take wireless control of your digital locomotive fleet directly from the WLANMAUS newGen.

Control locomotive speed and direction, select locomotives from your library and operate their available digital decoder functions.

New Endless Rotary Speed Controller

The WLANMAUS newGen features a newly developed endless rotary speed controller with integrated push button.

Two operating methods are available:

Continuous Control Mode – provides modern endless rotary control and is particularly convenient when changing between locomotives.

Classic Zero-Position Mode – provides a more traditional model railway throttle experience with vibration feedback for the zero position.

This gives operators the flexibility to choose the control method they prefer.

Wireless Freedom with WLAN / Wi-Fi

The WLANMAUS communicates wirelessly using WLAN / Wi-Fi, allowing you to move freely around your model railway while remaining in control of your trains.

This makes it ideal for larger layouts where you want to physically follow a train, as well as club, exhibition and multi-operator railways.

Z21 Compatibility

The Z21 WLANMAUS newGen has also been successfully tested by YaMoRC with the YD7010 Command Station.

This is particularly important for YaMoRC users looking for a modern physical wireless throttle to complement the YD7010.

The WLANMAUS can communicate with the YD7010’s Z21 server, allowing the YD7010 to work with the WLANMAUS as part of a wireless digital control system.

Programming with the YD7010

The YaMoRC testing is especially interesting because the WLANMAUS was successfully used for both programming methods.

Programming Track:
CV information could be programmed and read using the dedicated programming output.

Programming on Main (POM):
Programming and reading was also successfully tested on the main track.

This takes the WLANMAUS beyond being simply a wireless driving throttle and makes it a useful control and programming device for a YD7010 installation.

YD7010 + WLANMAUS + Z21 App

One of the most interesting aspects of the YaMoRC testing was the synchronisation between devices.

The YD7010, Z21 app and WLANMAUS newGen were reported to provide fast synchronisation during testing.

This creates a very flexible operating environment.

You could, for example, use the WLANMAUS newGen as your physical driving controller, while retaining the Z21 app for additional touchscreen control and configuration.

For larger layouts, multiple control methods can therefore form part of the same YD7010-based digital system.

Points, Signals & Accessories

The WLANMAUS isn’t limited to driving locomotives.

Switch between locomotive and turnout/accessory modes and operate points, signals and other digitally controlled accessories directly from the handset.

Up to 2,048 magnetic accessories can be switched, providing considerable capacity for larger model railway installations.

Digital Programming

The WLANMAUS newGen provides access to digital programming functions, making it considerably more than a simple wireless throttle.

When used with compatible equipment, the controller can be used for decoder programming and configuration as part of your digital system.

Programming and reading functionality has also been successfully demonstrated during YaMoRC’s testing with the YD7010.

Emergency Stop Control

A dedicated emergency stop function allows you to quickly intervene when required.

You can perform an emergency stop of the complete system or selectively stop the currently selected locomotive.

This can be particularly useful on larger layouts where stopping one locomotive is preferable to bringing the complete railway to a halt.

Rechargeable Battery Operation & USB-C Charging

The WLANMAUS newGen is designed for convenient cordless operation using 3 x AAA rechargeable batteries.

With suitable rechargeable batteries installed, the integrated USB-C connection provides convenient charging from an appropriate external power supply.

During YaMoRC’s testing, USB-C power and charging were successfully tested. Their test reported charging from approximately 15% to 100% in around 50 minutes using 750 mAh NiMH batteries.

Actual charging time will depend on the batteries, their condition and the power source being used.
